The Moto Z3 has just landed, but it looks like it’ll be the last Moto Z series phone coming out this year. That’s because Motorola US has just confirmed via Twitter that it won’t be launching any more Moto Z models in 2018.

Motorola was replying to a customer who asked them whether there will be a Moto Z3 Force. This is a big break from tradition for the company. It’s been launching a trio of phones in the Z lineup for the past 2 years. It’s unveiled the Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play so far, and many were expecting that a Moto Z3 Force was in the works.

Reasons Why Motorola Dropped The Moto Z3 Force

To recall, the Moto Z Force and Moto Z2 Force both have ShatterShield screens that are more durable than its siblings. However, the latter fell into some controversy earlier this year when many users began complaining that the device’s display was peeling.

It’s not clear whether this had anything to do with the Moto Z3 Force’s fate. The brand could always release the handset next year since it doesn’t say anything about its future plans in the tweet. Perhaps the firm wants to keep some distance between its Z series phones in case consumers were getting overwhelmed or confused with options.

There’s also a chance that the Force edition doesn’t sell as well as the other two. It’s possible that Motorola has decided to cancel it completely instead of risking sales. Yet another possibility is that the company wants to wait around for 5G to arrive and include that as part of the phone instead of a separate 5G Moto Mod.

There are a lot of potential reasons and explanations here, but Motorola will probably keep everyone in the dark until 2019. Judging by responses to the tweet, customers are not happy with its decision to drop the Moto Z3 Force. Let’s see if the firm does anything about this next year.
