New OxygenOS update brings OnePlus 6T features to OnePlus 6

OnePlus 6

The OnePlus 6T emerged just a few days ago with a number of new hardware and software changes. The company had promised to carry forward some of these additions to the OnePlus 6 and it’s now followed through on its pledge.

OxygenOS version 9.0.2 is currently rolling out for the OnePlus 6 in a staged manner, meaning a limited number of users will get it first. As per OnePlus, once it’s determined that there aren’t any critical bugs, the update will spread to everyone.

New OnePlus 6 Features in OxygenOS 9.0.2

All OnePlus 6 owners who download and install OxygenOS 9.0.2 will be able to utilize the OnePlus 6T’s new Nightscape and Studio Lighting camera tools. The former lets the device take better shots in low-light conditions. Highlights will get exposed, artifacts are cleared up, the shutter speed is slowed down to capture more light, and the ISO is lowered to reduce noise.

Even shakes are compensated for by merging multiple images together for a sharp final image. As for Studio Lighting, it studies faces to dynamically tone shadows and highlights for a more dramatic look. The OnePlus 6 and its sequel pretty much have the same 16MP + 20MP dual camera setup, so there shouldn’t be too big of a difference between shots.

There are also new navigation gestures in store for the OnePlus 6, the same as the ones found on the 6T since both of them don’t have home buttons. The About page has a refreshed UI so it’ll be easier to browse. The brand has also thrown in optimized standby power consumption for improved battery life and the November Android security patch for the security-conscious.

People who use the Google Assistant frequently will be pleased to know that OxygenOS 9.0.2 lets the OnePlus 6 launch the AI by holding the power button for 0.5 seconds. If they’re not fans of the Google Assistant, they can re-program the button to launch any other third-party assistant apps.
