Next Huawei Honor phone will have a sliding camera

Huawei’s next addition to its Honor series is set to get an innovation in its camera department by integrating a sliding module containing both the front and rear lens. Pictures of the phone were unveiled through the TENAA certification the smartphone received.

The images show the main snapper where it normally sits on the back of the phone. But to access the front lens, you’ll have to move the assembly up. It sounds like a pain in the thumb, but Huawei has engineered it to be motorized. The company has placed a dedicated button on the left side of the device, to summon the front camera.

So what are the advantages? Based on the leaked photos via MyDrivers, it looks as if both cameras will be accompanied by dual-tone dual-LED flash. Front snappers having flash, let alone dual-LED flash, is still pretty uncommon even among high-end handsets. So the novelty of it should play right into the selfie-obsessed crowd’s hearts.

Another benefit for the Huawei phone comes in terms of design. With no lens on the front, the bezel on the top of the display has been reduced, making it narrower compared with other smartphones. Good news for people who want more usable space on their screens. There also doesn’t appear to be any capacitive buttons on the bottom of the panel.

The new smartphone is currently called the Huawei ATH-AL00, as reported by GizmoChina. We’re sure the name will be changed when it’s ready for release, given it’s part of the company’s Honor lineup. Speculations suggest the device could potentially have a fingerprint scanner embedded within the selfie button.

Not much is known about the handset in terms of hardware. The images reveal the phone could have dual-SIM slots and an additional camera button to snap pictures. As with previous Huawei Honor devices, it might have an in-house Kirin chipset combined with 3GB to 4GB of RAM.
