PlanetHutch launched in Kerala by Hutch

Hutch LogoOn August 25, Hutch announced the launch of PlanetHutch, an interactive GPRS_based service for its customers in Kerala. Hutch customers, who have GPRS and EDGE enabled phones, can now download their favorite songs, polyphonic ring tones, wallpapers, greeting cards, movie clips and games anytime, anywhere. Hutch customers in Kerala can also get the latest national and international news updates. Besides, they can also MMS their favorite pictures.

Hutch has around 5.8 lakh subscribers in Kerala and commands a presence across 500 towns. The launch of PlanetHutch comes at a time when Kerala celebrates the festival of Onam, and offers loads of features like complete waivering-off monthly rental, free MMS during the first 3 months, downloadable Onam Greetings, wallpapers and songs.

Hutch customers will be charged the standard rate of 10paise/10kb as usage charges, while accessing PlanetHutch. Regular download charges range from Rs. 3 to Rs. 150. Besides, Hutch customers can track their PlanetHutch usage through the GPRS data counter available on most GPRS compatible handsets.

Speaking on the occasion, Samuel Selvakumar, operations director, Hutchison Essar, Kerala, said, “Hutch believes in empowering its customers by giving them a fast and easy access to innovative value added services. With PlanetHutch, Hutch customers in Kerala will find their GPRS enabled handsets becoming a one stop shop for all their infotainment needs.”

Hutch is also introducing EDGE, which is a technology that will give high-speed connectivity to its customers in Kerala, thus reducing the download time. Enhanced data for GSM Evolution (EDGE) standard has the capability to provide high-speed, multimedia mobile services such as video streaming on to mobile phones.

EDGE can deliver higher speeds of download using the existing GSM spectrum, and is being undertaken by leading GSM operators globally. As of now, the service is available in three cities- Kochi, Trivandrum and Calicut.

Hutch customers who have data enabled handsets have been pre-activated, or they can even get PlanetHutch activated by calling Hutch care, or by sending PH as an SMS to 123.
