Murata makes $135 million offer for SyChip

murata logo Japanese components company Murata Mfg. Co. said that it is looking to acquire SyChip Inc. for 16 billion yen (about $135 million).

The buyout is expected to take place later in April and be conducted through Murat’s U.S. subsidiary Murata Electronics North America Inc.

SyChip, a spin-off from Bell Labs in 2000, was launched to commercialize technology to integrate high Q passives components and transistors in chip-scale modules for radio frequency programs.

SyChip CSMs are supplied to mobile devices terminals such as mobile phones, PDAs, point-of-sale terminals, Murata said. SyChip is also developing integrated passive device (IPD) technology based on the use of silicon substrates.
