Microsoft Office for Symbian rolled out

Microsoft Office For Symbian

Instead of depending on third-party apps, Nokia apparently wants its users to experience the ‘real thing’ through the Microsoft Office application for Symbian devices. These tools are currently available for a selected number of smartphones. However, they are expected to be available through the Nokia Store in a few weeks for all Belle-powered handsets.

Through this host of tools, users will be able to download and edit documents created in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more, straight from their mobile phones. This also eliminates the need for third-partly applications and is most likely to be as effective as its PC software counterpart. At present, the Office mobile app is compatible with devices such as Nokia 700, 701, 603, E7, X7, C7, Oro, and C6-01.

“Until now, you could only get the full Microsoft Office Mobile app on Windows Phone, but not anymore. We are happy to announce that from today, the Nokia 701, Nokia 700, Nokia 603, Nokia E7, Nokia X7, Nokia C7, Nokia Oro, and Nokia C6-01 will also get this much sought after collection of productivity apps. You can get them using the Nokia Software Update tool on your smartphone, or connecting your phone to the Nokia Suite on your PC. Office Mobile apps will also be available from the Nokia Store in just a few weeks,” reads a post made on the official Nokia Conversations blog.

Through Word mobile, users can edit, save and send documents with content like tables, SmartArt and charts. It’s also accompanied by various features including pinch to zoom, which provides a convenient method for viewing and altering files. The Excel mobile tool is capable of carrying out tasks such as creating charts and inserting formulas, while PowerPoint mobile places itself as an intuitive approach for browsing through slides and editing presentations.

The Microsoft Office for Symbian application can be acquired through the Nokia Software Update tool on the handset or the Nokia Suite software for PC. The Nokia N8, E6 and 500 are soon to receive the update as well. What’s more, the Nokia 808 PureView is expected to come preloaded with these tools at launch.
