It’s more or less official that Micromax’s Yu Televentures is working on a smartphone under the codename Project Caesar and the company has once again confirmed the existence of the device by teasing it online. Its social media posts say that the handset is coming soon with Android Lollipop onboard and the Indian brand has also managed to take a shot at Xiaomi in the bargain.
The first post reads ‘the fYUture is coming’ with the teaser image saying ‘KitKat in the age of lollipop? Give me a break.’ The letter ‘M’ here is styled in the same way as Xiaomi’s Mi logo, taking at straight shot at the Chinese OEM. A second teaser confirms that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be preloaded with Project Caesar.
Xiaomi’s smartphones are mostly stuck on Android KitKat, even the latest releases with the MIUI 6 interface. The company is still rolling out version 4.4 to its device, so Lollipop isn’t arriving to the Mi series anytime soon. Coming to Project Caesar, there’s nothing concrete on the handset as yet. The second teaser image suggests that the new device could be just 60% complete.
This means that it’ll be still awhile before we see it go official. The Yu Yureka handset is a 5.5-inch phablet, so the upcoming Micromax handset could be a smaller option. The former is in direct competition with Xiaomi Redmi Note and it’s possible that Project Caesar will go up against the cheaper Redmi 2.
In a previous report, it was disclosed that the Yu Project Caesar handset was scheduled to make its debut sometime in April. And judging by how things are going, we suspect that the phone will only surface mid to late of next month.
