At its extremely hyped unveiling event in New Delhi, Micromax launched a new smartphone range with its flag bearer being the Canvas Sliver 5. At 5.1mm thin and 97gms in weight, it happens to be slimmest and lightest smartphone ever, which the company thinks is enough to justify its Rs 17999 price.
Now we know fingers can easily be pointed to the fact that the Vivo X5 Max stands at just 4.75mm thin, but what’s often ignored is that fact that the camera bump at its rear surface adds some length to its end-to-end measurement. This is where the Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 differs from its contemporaries, as it offers a 5.1mm slim end-to-end profile and has its body covered with aluminum and glass.
Naturally, there are many sacrifices that the company will have had to make in order to achieve this uniqueness. The Canvas Sliver 5 hence grabs just one SIM card slot and does not offer a microSD card slot, asking you to make do with its 16GB storage.
But sticking to the current trend, it does feature 4G LTE support and comes with Airtel’s Double 4G Data offer. With the launch of this device, Micromax has decided to address its after sales service woes by announcing a new service policy that grants customers the facility of doorstep pickup and drop in 7 days.

After having a look at those specs in the space above, Rs 17999 seems to be a very high asking amount with cheaper handsets like the Mi 4i and others offering similar and even better specs below the Rs 15000 mark. The Canvas Sliver 5 hence seems like its banking on its slimness and lightness a tad too much.
The Indian market has only recently gotten specs-conscious which is why we’re wondering if the whole focus on the design aspects of the Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 will compel the audiences to purchase it. It’ll be out in the first week of July.
