A number of Xiaomi handsets have already received MIUI 7, but this version of the ROM sadly runs on the Lollipop version of Android. The Chinese company however has confirmed now that at least the Mi 4 and the Mi Note handsets will soon be receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The first question that arises is whether this software will bring with it a new version of MIUI or not. The answer is no. The MIUI version will remain tied at 7, with only the base software switching from Lollipop to Marshmallow. This was also the case when the switch from KitKat to Lollipop happened for the ROM.
That the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note will be receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow soon has been revealed by MIUI’s operations manager through Weibo (via GSM Arena). It was just yesterday that the Mi 4 was granted its very own Windows 10 Mobile ROM.
This device ships with a 5-inch 1080p full HD display onboard, and runs on a 2.5GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 processor that combines its prowess with 3GB worth of RAM. A 13MP rear camera forms part of its offerings, aside from a 8MP front snapper. This phone is moreover powered by a 3080mAh battery.
The Mi Note on the other hand, is a phablet which boasts of a 5.7-inch 1080p full HD monitor and a 2.5GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 processor. It grabs 3GB of RAM, a 13MP rear camera, a 4MP front snapper and a 3000mAh battery.
We’re not sure about when exactly the Marshmallow update will be rolled out for the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note smartphones, but we’ll make sure to inform you once it’s out.
