The 2018 iPhones are coming next month, which means there’s going to be a steady stream of leaks from all directions until the big day. The latest bit of information comes from popular YouTube tech reviewer Marques Brownlee who showed off 3 dummy models of the upcoming devices.
We’ve seen dummy unit of the 2018 iPhones before of course, but these are high-quality ones which are probably the best representation of what to expect in September. Brownlee says he got the models from the same source who provided units for 2017’s lineup of iPhones. Those turned out to be pretty accurate, so the new dummies should prove to be authentic as well.
2018 iPhone Colors
As per his sources, the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X (2018) is going to be sold in white, black and gold. The 6.5-inch OLED iPhone X Plus is likely to follow suit. The 6.1-inch LCD iPhone 9 might add some more colors to the mix. Brownlee doesn’t know which ones for sure, but there will be at least 4 splashy options.
Interestingly, it seems Apple has made the new iPhones a lot whiter than the original iPhone X. He compared last year’s handset with this year’s in a side-by-side look. The older smartphone appears to be considerably duller and greyer than its newer counterparts which are much brighter.
This could either be a deliberate choice by Apple or a misdirection by the person behind the dummy units. The iPhone 9 notably has a glass back which means it’ll support wireless charging. It’s also got a single rear camera that’s a bit bigger than the iPhone 8’s lens.
The big news here is that Touch ID is officially gone and Face ID is here to stay in each of the new phones. This translates to a uniform notch design across the trio, even the cheapest LCD model. Sadly, the video doesn’t provide any insight into the names of the iPhones.
