Mac users offered Seagate GoFlex external drives

Seagate GoFlex Mac

Mac users who’ve been waiting for Seagate to get out some new GoFlex drives with enviable amounts of hoarding space need not look any further. Seagate has thrown the covers off an entirely new collection of FreeAgent GoFlex for Mac external drives which deliver cross-platform compatibility in spite of being designed for Mac.

The 2.5” GoFlex for Mac Limited Edition ultra-portable drive enables users to travel back in time and access changes or file updates before they were made with Apple’s Time Machine, figuratively speaking. A 2.5” drive that spins at 7,200rpm and clocks up faster transfer speeds than USB 2.0 with the supplied FireWire 800 cable is what the GoFlex Pro for Mac ultra portable claims to be.

“With over 10 billion songs downloaded from the iTunes store and Apple’s market share continuing to grow year-over-year, the growing audience for Mac OS X will need external storage to backup all their digital content,” expressed Darcy Clarkson, vice president of Global Retail Sales and Marketing, Seagate. “Today’s product introduction addresses these current market trends and underscores Seagate’s commitment to delivering flexible, easy-to-use solutions that meet varying customer needs.”

The 3.5” GoFlex Desk for Mac external drive obligingly sits horizontally or vertically so that it fits comfortably even in limited work spaces. Compatible with Time Machine, this storage device can be purchased with optional software which features a couple of useful tools and displays the drive’s real-time capacity with lights on the dock. Seagate’s GoFlex for Mac Limited Edition ultra-portable drive works with GoFlex TV or GoFlex Net and flaunts a 2.5” form factor that’s slimmer than 12.5mm.

Each of the drives are HFS+ formatted for compatibility with Time Machine, although they can still be used with Windows. Should users choose to employ a Mac drive for a Windows PC, an HFS+ driver for Windows can be downloaded from the Seagate website in order to do just this. Also bundled in with these storage devices that come backed by three-year warranties are FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 adapters.

The 500GB GoFlex Pro for Mac ultra portable can be picked up for $149.99, while the 750GB version costs $179.99. $219.99 and $279.99 price labels have been attached to the 2TB and 3TB GoFlex Desk for Mac drives, correspondingly. The 1TB and 1.5TB GoFlex for Mac ultra-portable drives ship for $199.99 and $249.99, respectively. Lastly, the GoFlex for Mac Limited Edition ultra-portable drive is priced at $199.95 for 1TB.
