The price for the Lenovo ThinkPad X131e Chromebook and its release date have been announced and the laptop will make its way to K-12 schools starting next month. This promotion also comes with some nice customization options to make the rugged device stand out from one institution to the next.

The ThinkPad X131e Chromebook for schools can be customized to meet the needs of individual institutions’ students. This, combined with stronger corners, protects the laptop in the event of an accidental drop. Furthermore, the hinges have also been reinforced to survive through a larger number of cycles of opening and closing – an additional 50,000 to be exact.

It comes with a range of Google Apps for Education to aid in the process. Additionally, thousands of web apps can be accessed from the Chrome Web Store, allowing students to make documents, spreadsheets and more. And it has even been optimized for pupils, IT administrators and educators alike to, right out of the box, satisfy any computing needs that might crop up.

The laptop offers an HD LED anti-glare screen which is 11.6 inches across and which has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It weighs just under 4 pounds (3.92 pounds) with a 6-cell battery and can deliver 8.5 hours of battery life as claimed by the manufacturer, making it conveniently usable for an entire school day.

In terms of connectivity options, students will get three USB ports as well as Wi-Fi capability. There is a low-light 720p webcam for added communication alternatives. And the added VGA and HDMI ports make it easy to display presentations to the class using a projector or a big screen. The company offers school logo etching and asset tagging for a deeper level of customization, although some packages require a minimum quantity to be ordered.
