Lava unveils two new budget smartphones, 5” Iris 503 and 4” Iris 402

Lava is back with a couple of new additions to its affordable smartphone portfolio of under Rs 10,000. The latest releases are the Iris 503 and Iris 402. The former is a 5-inch handset, while the latter proffers a 4-inch display. They both run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The Iris 503 falls in the same price category as the Karbonn Titanium S2, the Xolo Q800 and the Xolo Q700. And while it features a dual core processor, the competition has quad core APs to offer. Each core is set at 1.2GHz and there’s 512MB of RAM which is just sufficient for a smooth Android experience. As mentioned above, the handset sports a 5-inch screen. The panel proffers visuals at 540 x 960p qHD resolution.

Iris 503

Like most affordable handsets, the Iris 503 is dual SIM enabled where one slot supports 3G, while the other is only compatible with 2G networks. Users will have 4GB of internal storage and a microSDHC card slot for expansion. Other features include a 1.2MP front camera, a 5MP rear snapper, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and a 2000mAh Li-ion battery that can deliver up to 7 hours of talktime.

The Iris 402 shares various features with the 503. The device is also powered by a 1.2GHz dual core processor. It has 4GB of internal memory and 32GB expandable as well as dual SIM support. The RAM however, is lesser at 256MB and the screen size is just 4-inch with WVGA resolution. Lava is deploying the phone with a 1500mAh battery and dual cameras, 3MP rear and VGA front.

The Lava Iris 503 is officially tagged at Rs 9,999, but it can be picked up through various retailers for as low as Rs 8,281. The Iris 402 is listed at Rs 5,499.
