Lava Iris X1 will offer Android 4.4 KitKat for under Rs 8,000

With the launch of the Moto E and Nokia’s X series, the budget smartphone market has been in chaos with OEMs struggling to keep up with the fierce competition and it looks like Lava might have found a solution through the Iris X1. The handset is said to be an affordable Android 4.4.2 KitKat offering which will go on sale in India for below Rs 8,000.

There are hardly any handsets that offer the latest flavor of Android in the affordable segment. Apart from the aforementioned devices, the Moto G, LG Series III handsets, Titanium Hexa, Octane and Octane Plus as well as the Xolo Q1000 Opus which was recently updated to version 4.4, are the only viable options in the market. With the Lava Iris X1, the company will be at an advantage considering the targeted price.

Lava Iris X1

Lava hasn’t disclosed much information about the Iris X1 and only a few specifics have been revealed. The handset will sport a 4.5-inch IPS display of unknown resolution and there will be an 8MP rear camera. Where the design is concerned, the company will implement the same design language that it used for the mid-range Iris Pro series.

By the looks of things, the Iris X1 could be quite an attractive device and Android 4.4.2 KitKat at a sub-Rs 8,000 price will garner the phone a lot of attention. Lava plans to launch the device in the next few days.

Here are the known specs:

– Android 4.4.2 KitKat
– 4.5-inch IPS display (probably WVGA or qHD resolution)
– 8MP rear camera
