In the current days of high-end portable media players like the Zune, iPods and many more, here’s one device which is quite a state-of-the-art device, and performs one function superbly well – providing a great quality audio for music whilst on-the-go.
Latte’s latest PMP dubbed “Ice” PMP, sports a slight serious look and would probably appeal to the austere and matured set of music lovers, for whom shimmer and spunky colors seem to be a matter of the past. The corporate looking Ice has a completely silver body with a glossy front and matte back, which makes it less prone to scratching. It features four buttons on either sides of the screen, which can be accessed easily. Thanks to its user-friendly user interface, it takes only a couple of minutes to get acquainted with the various features and functions of Latte’s new PMP.
Latte’s Ice includes all the necessary features that a basic PMP needs to incorporate. With a 3.5mm Stereo Earphone Output, the player actually comes with no additional frills and useless extras that at times remain unexplored by layman users. The Ice plays MP3, WMA, FLAC and APE audio formats along with MPEG AVI and FLV videos. However it is necessary to note here that to enjoy videos on your Ice, you have to convert them in appropriate formats with the help of the software, which comes bundled with the player.
In addition, all your JPEG photos can be saved and viewed on this PMP that includes an amazingly clear and bright 2.8 inch QVGA TFT LCD, 320X240 display. You can read e-books here too. What’s really interesting is that unlike most other PMPs, including the iPod Nano, Ice features FM radio along with a voice recorder. Interestingly, Tetris – the game which most of us have played at some point or the other in our lives – comes embedded in latte’s Ice. And of course, you can all this thanks to the decent enough 2GB or 4GB memory (you choose the one you find more suitable to your requirements) that the players integrate. The more the merrier, oops better! What’s more, if your files are way too huge, then all you need to do is pop in a Micro SD card and expand the memory further.
The battery life is also satisfactory. While you can enjoy as many as 6-8 hours of audio time on the device, if you prefer watching Rihanna’s latest videos then 4-5 hours of watching is what you get on the Ice.
The other little yet necessary tid-bits such as well-suited and comfortable headphones that come in ‘Small’ and ‘Medium’ sizes, choice of charging the battery either through the USB or via electricity, augment the pleasure of owning the Latte Ice.
TechShout.com would give the Latte Ice PMP an 8.5 out of 10 rating. The reasons for its above average score are well cited above. In addition, around $120 for the 4GB version and $75 for the 2 GB one makes it quite a worthwhile buy. Perhaps a choice in colors and the design of the PMP would have appealed it to a greater audience. But in short, it does best what it’s meant to do – be a wholesome digital entertainment platform.
