LaCie redesigns its USB 3.0 portfolio to play well with latest MacBook series

In addition to the RuggedKey USB drive which launched a couple of days back, LaCie has now unveiled its next generation USB 3.0 peripherals. These devices include re-engineered Mac-friendly hard drives, both internal and external, that are capable of delivering enhanced performance when attached to rigs with an Ivy Bridge processor that supports the 3.0 interface natively.

Apart from HDDs, the second generation lineup comprises of cables, USB keys, professional RAID storage and much more. Through the UAS protocol included win the MacBook Air, Pro and the new Pro with Retina Display, users will be able to experience superior data speeds over USB 3.0. Improvements should also be noticed by those running the OS X Lion and Mountain Lion platforms.

The Porsche Design P’9233 and P’9230 are built with an aluminum casing. Both devices come in 2TB and 3TB storage options starting at approximately $159.99, while the former can currently deliver up to 5Gbps transfer speeds over USB 3.0. The Rugged Triple, on the other hand, sports a drop-resistant form factor with AES 256-bit encryption protection.

The second generation of LaCie USB 3.0 peripherals will be available through Apple as well as the company’s own resellers and the LaCie Online Store this summer worldwide.
