The first smartphones from local OEMs in India to have Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box have arrived through the Titanium Hexa, Octane and Octane Plus from Karbonn. These handsets fall in the mid-range and high-end categories and they each come with the latest processors from MediaTek.
First up is the Karbonn Titanium Hexa. As the name suggests, this smartphone rocks an hexa core chipset, the MT6591 to be precise, clocked at 1.5GHz. The handset is pretty slim at 6.9mm and it has a 5.5-inch 1080p FHD LTPS panel with a scratch-resistant coating. For memory, there’s 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM and OTG support. The company has employed a 13MP camera on the rear, while a 5MP snapper sits pretty on the front. A 2050mAh battery powers it up.
The Karbonn Titanium Octane and Octane Plus come with similar specifications. Both handsets have 5-inch IPS displays, 1.7GHz octa core processors and 2000mAh batteries. But the former falls in the mid-range, while the latter is slightly more high-end. The Octane delivers visuals in 720p resolution and it has 16GB of storage as well as 1GB of RAM. Like the Titanium Hexa, this handset also dons a 13MP main and a 5MP secondary camera. The Octane Plus, on the other hand, has a 1080p panel, a 16MP rear lens, an 8MP webcam and 2GB of RAM.
Common features of all three smartphones:
– Android 4.4 KitKat
– 16GB internal storage
– Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, HSPA+ 42Mbps, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS
– Dual SIM slots
Karbonn notes that these devices will go on sale in the last week of April. The Titanium Hexa is priced at Rs 16,990, while the Octane and Octane Plus will be available for Rs 14,490 and Rs 17,990, respectively.
