The Jolla Sailfish OS 1.0’s fourth update that will make the platform commercially viable is all set to be rolled out in early March. This upgrade will make it ready for global distribution. The company has also decided to make the OS available as a downloadable software for devices based on Android.
Up until now, the platform was in the beta stage and had received three updates. Also, software upgrades will be released every month for the Jolla phone as well as the OS. And that’s not all, the company has revealed that the Jolla Sailfish smartphone is ready to hit some new countries including Russia, India and Hong Kong. As of now, it is up for grabs in Norway, Switzerland and all European Union nations.
The new version of the software brings bug fixes as well as improved visuals and performance, new camera features, general settings, extended landscape support and an updated Jolla store amongst a number of other things. It is a gesture-based platform featuring effortless navigation, live multitasking and much more. Apart from Sailfish applications, it is compatible with the Android apps too.
Those who wish to experience the Sailfish OS without downloading it on their Android devices will have the option of installing the Sailfish user interface launcher on their phones. It will be available as an application for Android-based gadgets via the recognized app stores.
The Jolla Sailfish OS 1.0 update will be here sometime in the first few weeks of March, but the smartphone’s exact availability details for the aforementioned countries are yet to be revealed. The Jolla Sailfish phone costs €399 in Europe.
