‘Warframe crossplay’ and ‘Warframe cross save’ are two features that fans of the game keep looking up all the time. If you’re one of those folks, here’s the complete lowdown on everything related to them. Developed by Digital Extremes, Warframe is a free-to-play action RPG that has been around since 2013.
It was initially only available for PC gamers, and then made its way to the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in the following years. Naturally then, there was a rising demand for Warframe cross-play as well as cross saving support on all global gaming platforms.
Developer Digital Extremes was against this feature initially, but eventually relented. Here’s everything you need to know about the game’s crossplay and cross saving features.
As we’ve already mentioned above, Warframe’s a free-to-play action RPG that asks players to assume control of members of an ancient race of warriors called Tenno.
They have awoken from centuries of suspended animation and are far into Earth’s future. They have found themselves at war with different factions in the planetary system.
Tenno warriors make use of their powered Warframes along with a variety of weapons and abilities to complete missions. Warframe offers both procedurally-generated levels and open world areas with fixed level designs.

Its parkour and stealth mechanics are well adored by fans. The game also includes PVP and PvE elements. Let us move on to whether Warframe cross platform play is a reality or not.
Is Warframe Crossplay In 2022 A Thing?
No, crossplay in Warframe is not a reality right now. That means you cannot play the game on one device and team up or fight against a gamer on another platform. Matchmaking only happens with all those folks who are playing the game on the same platform.
However, there’s great news in store for those who have been requesting cross platform support in Warframe. During TennoCon 2021, developer Digital Extremes revealed that cross saving and cross-play support are in development for the game.

The best thing about the announcement was that cross platform play was also showcased during the event as a proof-of-concept even though a wide release still hasn’t taken place.
Moreover, this January, the makers said during a live stream that cross platform is a priority for the studio in 2022, describing it as the “highest thing on our list right now.”
Is Warframe Coming To Mobile?
Yes indeed. For those who want to play Warframe on their phones, a mobile version is under development, as was officially confirmed by Digital Extremes during the same TennoCon 2021 announcement.
What’s also great to know is that these Android and iOS versions of the game will support cross-play and cross-save. So expect the mobile version for each of these platforms to arrive around the same time as these two features.
Is Warframe Cross Save Supported?
Warframe players will already know that it is not cross-save enabled at the moment. That means you can’t leave the game at one point on one platform and pick it up from that point on another. If you are playing it on PC and want to continue on the Nintendo Switch, you will have to start from the beginning.
But the game will eventually be blessed with this functionality. Releasing Warframe cross play and cross-save support is a top priority for the developers this year, which means that we should get to see both the features in action soon.
Why Doesn’t The Game Offer Cross Save And Crossplay
There can be several reasons why Warframe doesn’t have cross-save and crossplay support even after so many years of development. And the developers have indeed spoken about them in the past.
During a developer live stream on Twitch in January 2019, upon being asked by a viewer about cross-play, the game’s creative director Steve Sinclair had said that it’s “it’s one of the highest-risk things we can do.”
At the time, a number of other free-to-play games had started taking the cross playing route in order to rope in more players.
About them, Sinclair had said, “A lot of those games came late to the platforms and had different negotiating environments to establish their contracts. On top of that, we are a game that is constantly changing. We change the game modes, we change the gameplay.”
Warframe has been in development constantly since its launch. Even now, patches and hotfixes are rolled out on an almost weekly basis. This also means that all versions of the game are not in parity with each other. Sometimes, the console versions get patches weeks after the PC version. This makes it difficult for crossplay to be incorporated into the mix, when some are into PC gaming, while others prefer consoles.
Moreover, there’s also the issue of Sony being infamously resistant to let Xbox and Nintendo players team up with PlayStation users. But now that so many games are adopting cross-play support, it seems that problem has been solved.
Warframe Cross Save Release Date News
There is no release date in sight for crossplay and cross-save in Warframe. All we know is that the features are in development and at the top of the priority list for the developer in 2022. The best guess is that they will be rolled out before fall.
Is Cross Progression Enabled?
At the moment, Warframe does not support cross progression. This means that your progress won’t be carried forward onto another platform if you make a sudden switch. Cross progression is more or less the same thing as cross-save. And since the latter is indeed headed to the game in the near future, you can expect cross progression to be made available as well.
Warframe is among the most popular free-to-play RPGs out right now. Fans are hence very much excited for crossplay to arrive for the game as they will finally be able to play with friends who are using other global gaming platforms than the one they are on.
