Entertainment studio Lionsgate has announced that it is currently in the works with Apple to provide a Digital Copy for iTunes with select DVDs purchased.
An iTunes Digital Copy of a movie or video can be transferred without any hassles on to iTunes, so that it can later be viewed on a PC, Mac, iPod Video or any widescreen TV with Apple TV.
Further, the iTunes Digital Copy provides a consumer-friendly way to transfer a DVD purchase to a user’s iTunes library. On purchase of the DVD, the customer then has to insert it into their computer and enter a unique code into iTunes. The movie is then automatically coped to his or her iTunes library.
According to Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes, “Now movie fans can easily transfer a copy of many Lionsgate films onto iTunes and bring it with them on their iPod or iPhone.”
It is known that the first movies to debut with iTunes Digital Copy will be the special edition of “Rambo” and “The Eye” on DVD and Blu-ray. Rambo will be available on May 27 2008, while The Eye will come out on DVD this summer. But, if you aren’t a fan of either of these popular flicks then don’t fret because more Lionsgate films on DVD with iTunes Digital Copy will be released sometime later this year.
But, it must be noted that each DVD will only transfer its iTunes Digital Copy to one iTunes library. Also, a user must have am iTune account.
