We’ve seen our fair share of iPhone leaks in the run-up to Apple’s September 12 event. Here to add something interesting to the mix is a new rumor which comes straight from Walmart.
According to a Reddit tipster, a US Walmart store has gotten a couple of iPhone Xs Max and 6.1-inch LCD iPhone AKA iPhone 9 cases by Speck. He seems to be an employee at the outlet and claims the covers haven’t gone up for sale yet. This makes sense since the handsets themselves haven’t gone official.
6.1-inch LCD iPhone vs iPhone X
The leakster took a couple of images as proof. One features the retail box the case comes in. It seems even Speck doesn’t know what the LCD iPhone is going to be called, simply referring to it as the “NEW iPhone 6.1-inch 2018.” Who knows, maybe that’s what Apple is planning to call it.
Another photo compares the iPhone 9 to the iPhone X. The former is clearly bigger, no surprise given that the latter measures 5.8-inch diagonally. There’s a long cutout at the back for what looks like a dual-camera setup, but is probably for a bigger-than-before single camera and a repositioned LED flash unit below it.
The tipster also compared the case for the 6.5-inch iPhone Xs Max with the iPhone X. Again, the former is much larger. A more apt comparison is with the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus. Both are rumored to be of a similar build and that’s clearly demonstrated here.
Apple probably achieved this by trimming down on the bezels and installing a notch at the top. The cutout at the back of the iPhone Xs Max is likely for a dual-camera system with an LED flash unit in-between.
Other than confirming the existence of the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone and iPhone Xs Max, little else can be gleaned from the photos. There aren’t any photos of the iPhone Xs’ case, but those are set to be the same as the iPhone X’s since Apple hasn’t changed the size of the new model.
