A new flaw has been discovered in iOS 6.1 where practically anyone will be able to bypass the iPhone lock screen and gain access to certain features. And to make things worse, the procedure is rather simple and takes not more than a few swipes along with a couple of button presses to complete.
Courtesy of revealing the issue goes to YouTube users S1riOS6 and videosdebarraquito. A video on each account details out the procedure to bypass the iPhone lock screen. Gizmodo Australia states that the trick permits access to the phone app where calls can be placed, messages can be sent and contacts can be edited, without the need of a pass code. For those interested in learning how the gimmick works, we’ve embedded the video which shows off a step by step procedure to bypass the lock screen below. For reminder’s sake, the error in the firmware doesn’t provide access to all features, just the few menus and options we’ve listed above.
In recent news, the platform in question was also subject to connectivity concerns on the iPhone 4S which affected 3G users on Vodafone, and has also caused some battery drain issues. On the bright side, these problems seem to have been rectified. The latest OS isn’t the only one to come with issues. The previous generation firmware, iOS 5, has had security concerns of its own, apart from a few battery-related woes. In addition to these, the iPhone 5 has brought up a few concerns at launch. The most prominent one was the purple flare which showed up in images captured via the 8MP iSight camera.
So far, Apple hasn’t provided any details as to when an update will be issued to get rid of the flaw in iOS 6.1. Those who have updated to the latest platform will have a fresh issue to deal with. But we’re certain that the company will take the security risk into high consideration and roll out a patch in due time.
