iPhone has received a celebrity like status everywhere in the world by now. Now the land waiting for the celebrity to come to it is India. And the phone is definitely acting pricey for that.
Okay, so be prepared to hear this – apparently the 3G iPhone from Apple has been priced at Rs. 31,000 ($712) for the one with 8GB of capacity while the 16 GB comes with a price tag of Rs. 36,00 ($828) from Vodafone.
Now so much for a 3G phone even when a 3G network has not been established in India? The grey market in India provides the same iPhone 3G for Rs. 20,000. Business Standard also reports that the second hand iPhone is available for Rs. 15,000.
In US the 8GB capacity 3G iPhone is available for $199 plus $99 for the one year contract with the network operator. The 16GB one is priced at $299.
The phone is being brought to the country by two network operators – Vodafone and Airtel on August 22. So while we have heard of big queues for the iPhone everywhere it got launched, let us see how many takers it finds in India.
