iPhone 8 gets compared to iPhone 7, Galaxy S8

iPhone 8 Size
iPhone 7 vs iPhone 8 vs iPhone 7 Plus

iPhone 8 rumors so far have been high on speculation but low on any precise specification details to definitively give an idea on what Apple’s next big thing will look like. This state of affairs may be at an end now thanks to a new report from iDrop News.

Frequent leakster Benjamin Geskin has collaborated with the publication to provide measurement details of the iPhone 8, in addition to renders based on those specs. Factory workers with intimate knowledge of the handset apparently told him that it will be sized at 143.59 x 70.94 x 7.57mm, making it larger than the 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1mm size of the iPhone 7.

Previous reports had alleged that the iPhone 8 would fit into the chassis of an iPhone 7 but be a bit thicker overall. The latest one indicates that it will in fact be larger than the latter, coming right smack dab in the middle of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

This is neatly illustrated in the image at the top. The iPhone 8 in the middle manages to maintain a smaller footprint than the iPhone 7 Plus but still has the bigger display of the two. There’s also another image which compares the smartphone to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

Based on the photos, it seems the iPhone 8 will be smaller than Samsung’s duo. It clearly doesn’t have a curved screen at its edges, but it is apparently going to sport an 18.5:9 aspect ratio just like the two. There’s also the matter of that prominent cutout at the top for the selfie cameras and sensors.

Rumors so far have indicated that Apple was working on hiding those sensors from view by placing them underneath the panel. We’ll have to wait and see whether it’s successful come September when the device is set to see the light of day.
