A new report is pointing out that the iPhone 6S range that is ready to be unveiled today will feature ‘Hey Siri’ hotword detection support, even when the device’s are not plugged to a charger. The clue to this was right before our eyes, but we have failed to notice it all along.
If you remember the invite to today’s event that was sent by Apple a few days ago, it featured the line ‘Hey Siri, give us a hint.’ We tried asking Siri on our own devices for the hint, unbeknownst to the fact that the line was alluding to the new always-on hotword detection.
As reported by Apple Insider, this feature will work in a similar fashion as the ‘Okay Google’ command, allowing you to trigger actions like web searches, message composition, voice calls and more just by using your voice. And that too, even when the device is not connected to a charger.
‘Hey Siri’ hotword detection was first introduced by Apple via iOS 8, but like we said, it only works when the iPhone is plugged. And since this trait hasn’t yet formed part of any of the iOS 9 builds that have been released so far, it’s safe to assume that it will be exclusive to the iPhone 6S range.
Apple is apparently ready to unveil a variety of other new products as well at today’s event. These include an updated Apple TV, a new iPad Pro tablet and more.
The event starts exactly at 10am Pacific Time later today in San Francisco. Stay tuned to this space if you wish to get all the details regarding the new iPhones and all other products unveiled at the gathering.
