Apple has delivered the iOS update it promised last week. iOS version 12.1.2 is a minor upgrade over the last build, but it might hold the key to solving the company’s legal woes with Qualcomm in China.
That’s because Apple had released a statement last week which claimed that the next iOS software update would address the patents Qualcomm is accusing it of violating. The IP covered the way photos get resized for wallpapers and switching between apps. It’s not clear how iOS 12.1.2 addresses either of these.
Will iPhones Get Un-Banned In China?
The update may not be enough for Apple to get iPhones un-banned in China though. According to Reuters (via AppleInsider), Qualcomm asserts that iOS 12.1.2 doesn’t affect the court order at all and Apple is in violation of the law since it’s still selling its handsets in the country.
As for the rest of the world, iOS 12.1.2 address eSIM activation bugs affecting the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. They’re the first iPhones to feature dual-SIM support, but the rollout has been pretty slow. Only Airtel and Reliance Jio support it in India, while Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T support it in the US.

iOS 12.1.2 also solves an issue which was negatively impacting the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max’s cellular connectivity in Turkey. No other changes are mentioned, but there are a few saying their iPhone’s battery life has significantly improved.
If you don’t want to wait, you can check if you’ve received iOS 12.1.2 by going to Settings > General > Software Update. It’s a minor update, so it won’t take long to install. It should be noted that this build is only for iPhones. iPad and iPod Touch models are still on iOS 12.1.1 right now.
