iOS 12.1.1 is out for all compatible iPhones and iPads. The release introduces a couple of useful features and fixes for the devices, particularly the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.
That’s because Apple has expanded eSIM support for the trio to even more carriers around the world. AT&T is the first among the major US networks to offer eSIM services, but Verizon and the others should catch up soon.
iPhone XR Gets Some 3D Touch Powers
The iPhone XR also gets some new Haptic Touch powers. Owners can now expand notifications using the tool. Only 3D Touch-running iPhones were able to do so previously. The iPhone XR doesn’t support 3D Touch, hence the need for Haptic Touch. It’s similar to its counterpart, except users can’t long-press AKA “peek and pop” on apps to reveal a menu of in-app options.
As for all iPhones in general, iOS 12.1.1 has fixed an issue where Face ID was temporarily unavailable and time zones weren’t updated automatically. FaceTime callers can once again go back to tapping a button to flip between the rear and selfie cameras. The option was around until iOS 12, so it’s nice to have it back again.

Apple’s also thrown in a neat feature for fans of animated images. People can now capture Live Photos during a one-to-one FaceTime call. iOS 12.1.1 further takes care of an annoying issue where users weren’t able to upload Voice Memos to iCloud. Beyond iPhones, it adds support for HomePods in Mainland China and Hong Kong.
You can check if you’ve gotten iOS 12.1.1 by heading to Settings > General > Software Update. It generally weighs in at about 315MB depending on the iPhone or iPad. Mac and Apple TV owners can also download macOS Mojave 10.14.2 and tvOS 12.1.1 on their devices.
