Counter-Strike 1.6 now works on Android, here’s how you can get it

Counter-Strike 1.6

It’s hard to believe but you can now play Counter-Strike 1.6 on your Android devices, complete with touchscreen controls to take advantage of. It’s quite a large process to get the game working, but it’s indeed worth the effort for those who wish to experience the thrill of the classic firster person shooter once more, on their smartphones or tablets.

A coder named Alibek Omarev has brought Counter-Strike 1.6 to Android and has explained the full process of how to do that as well. For one, you need to have the official game files of the title ready with you, so go back into Steam and grab them.

Do ensure that you have the latest version of Xash3D Android installed on your device. If not, you can grab the file from this link. Going further, you will now have to install the main APK which you can get here. Do note that it will need to be installed with omp postfix if you have a multi-core device and noomp if you have a single-core device.

And now, all that’s left to do is copying the ‘cstrike’ and ‘valve’ folders from your Steam installation of Counter-Strike 1.6 to the xash folder on your micro SD card or phone memory. This will enable you to launch the game from the client and enjoy it on your Android devices.

It is extremely clunky to play Counter-Strike 1.6 on touchscreens though, since this game is not one that is suited for such a control scheme. You’ll be hence pleased to know that you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard or gamepad to your devices in order to better enjoy it.
