Apple will now deliver new movie releases from major film studios and premier independent studios for purchase on the iTunes Store on the same day as their DVD release. The studios include 20th Century Fox, The Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Lionsgate, Image Entertainment and First Look Studios.
The movies purchased from iTunes can be watched on various gadgets such as iPod, iPhone, Mac, PC or even on TV with Apple TV. These newly released movies will be priced at $14.99 while most catalog titles will cost $9.99.
“We’re thrilled to bring iTunes Store customers new films for purchase day-and-date with the DVD release,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “We think movie fans will love being able to buy their favorites from major and independent studios.”
“American Gangster” and “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” are the new releases which will be available through iTunes this week. Even other popular movies such as “Juno,” “Cloverfield,” “I Am Legend,” “There Will Be Blood,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks” and “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” will be available through iTunes.
iTunes is one of the most popular online music, TV and movie stores having a catalog of over six million songs, 600 TV shows and over 1,500 films including 200 in stunning high definition video. This next move of Apple to introduce movies on iTunes on the same day of their release will further increase the popularity of the iTunes store.
