Yahoo! India has launched a local information platform on Yahoo! India Local (beta) that users can access by visiting local.yahoo.in. The local information site is available across four metro cities – Delhi/ NCR (National Capital Region), Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.
The site provides an enormous amount of useful information under the categories of restaurants, pubs, shopping malls, hospitals, schools, tailors, banks, health and fitness, and 24 hour pharmacies; 300 categories in all. It supplies local information like business listings, map and directions, local events, movies and a lot more. What’s more? Users can add in the information too by simply adding events to the listing, posting reviews, leaving foot-prints, mark businesses on the map etc.
In addition there is a tab ‘Essentialist’ through which Yahoo! boasts of providing solutions for a user’s common day-to-day problems. For example, Essentialist features nearest real-estate agent in Bandra if you are moving into the locality, schools and colleges in Bandra; jewelers, boutiques and apparel shops if you are getting married in Bandra, cable TV operators, departmental stores, gas agencies; you name it and it’s there.
Local business organizations can also use the portal to their advantage by listing their businesses under relevant categories to maximize their reach to consumers; and that too for free!
“Designed to create an active and vibrant community, Yahoo! India Local will enable its users to harness community knowledge. On Yahoo! India Local, users can find, use, share and enhance (FUSE) local information at ease while small businesses and local merchants can grow their businesses as online users discover them here”’, said Sridhar Ranganathan, Business Head, Local & Maps, Yahoo! India.
Yahoo! India Local is developed by the team of Yahoo! India and Yahoo! India Research & Development team.
“Continuing to execute on our big bets, Yahoo! India Local (Beta) reiterates our strategy to be the leading starting point on the web, by providing the most relevant and compelling experience for local needs,” said Gopal Krishna, Head of Audience, Yahoo! Yahoo! India has also facilitated sharing and downloading information via SMS and e-mail by integrating web and mobile. Now isn’t it a great news for users. With so much to offer, the innovative Yahoo! India Local aims to revolutionize the way users utilize the web, by making it “more useful, engaging, interesting and localized” to Yahoo! users, according to Gopal Krishna, Head of Audience, Yahoo!
