Huawei launches Mate 8, MediaPad M2 tablet at CES 2016

The Huawei Mate 8 made its first appearance in China 2 months ago and the brand has now decided to launch the huge phablet internationally at CES 2016. It’s also announced a new luxury version of its smartwatch and the MediaPad M2 10.0 tablet.

Huawei plans to roll out the Mate 8 to 30 countries initially. The first wave will include Australia, Germany, Spain, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates and France. It’s priced at 599 euros (roughly $650) for the 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM version and at 699 euros (approx $750) for the 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM model.

The flagship Huawei device flaunts a 6-inch full HD screen with 2.5D curved diamond cut glass. It comes with a fingerprint scanner on its rear surface and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. One major highlight of the handset is the brand’s own Kirin 950 processer, which utilizes 4 1.8GHz Cortex-A53 cores and 4 2.3GHz Cortex-A72 cores.

Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0

Moving on to the MediaPad M2 10.0, the tablet’s cost starts at $349 and it will be sold in 2 variants namely a premium edition and a standard one. The former contains 3GB of RAM/64GB of ROM and bundles the M-Pen stylus, while the latter packs 2GB of RAM/16GB of ROM. The 10.1-inch tablet sports a full HD resolution and runs on a 6660mAh battery.

Huawei has equipped the all-metal device with 4 speakers, with 2 of them dedicated for treble and the other 2 for bass. The units have been further enhanced with advanced harman/kardon audio technology. The camera setup consists of a 5MP selfie snapper and a 13MP autofocus rear shooter accompanied by LED flash, an aperture of f/2.0 and a blue glass filter.

Finally, Huawei has collaborated with Swarovski to launch the Jewel and Elegant versions of the Huawei Watch. Aimed at women, the new models of the smartwatch will go sale in a few countries from March 2016 starting at $499.
