With a price of $649, the One Developer Edition will be available in the US for all those who want the latest offerings from HTC with the freedom to tinker around with the Android platform. As expected, the device will hit shelves SIM-free, sans any carrier commitment or contract, although the company does mention that only limited quantities of the phone are in production.
Additionally, the Edition will arrive with an unlocked bootloader out of the box, being part of the company’s program to make devices available without restricted bootloaders. Owing to this, application creators will be able to build and test their apps and custom ROM cookers can modify the platform to their liking. Open APIs have also been included for Bluetooth and Infrared.
Well, apart from the aforementioned changes, everything else is supposed to remain the same, appearance- and specifications-wise. The handset is designed with a 9.3mm slim form factor that’s crafted from metal, leveraging the Zero gap technology. Users will get a full HD display on the front that spans as wide as 4.7 inches with a 468ppi pixel density. And powering the phone up is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clubbed with 2GB of RAM.
This particular option comes with 64GB of onboard storage and as usual, the company is offering it with 25GB of free Dropbox space for a period of two years. While the 4MP UltraPixel camera paired with ImageChip 2, aims to deliver quality images as well as videos, the BoomSound stereo speakers work to provide crisp audio output when combined with the integrated amplifiers on the front.
