HTC Desire 816 goes on sale in the US starting today at $299

HTC’s latest Desire smartphone family has been officially launched stateside with the Desire 816 going on sale starting today. What’s more, the company has already released the Desire 610 handset through AT&T and rumor has it that even Verizon will start offering the phone in the near future.

The HTC Desire 816 and the smaller 610 were announced back in February at the MWC 2014 and are aimed at the mid-range market. Both handsets are fitted with various features found on the flagship smartphones. They offer the latest version of Android coupled with the newest Sense 6 release which includes the BlinkFeed UI, Zoe Highlights and more.

Additionally, the dual front-facing BoomSound speakers are also onboard, but the company has reserved the UltraPixel camera for flagship products only. The Desire 816 is a 5.5-inch phablet that offers a clean and minimalistic design which comes in multiple shades. The phone features HD visuals and it support 4G LTE.

Powering it up is a quad core Snapdragon 400 SOC clocked at 1.6GHz. The CPU is accompanied by 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of flash storage and a microSD card slot that can support up to 128GB. There are dual cameras as well, 5MP on the front and 13MP on the rear. Where battery life is concerned, the 2600mAh cell can deliver 21 hours of 3G talk time or around 737 hours of standby.
