HTC confirms Android Lollipop update rollout for GPe devices from next week

So now that most Nexus devices have started receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop and even a couple of phones from Motorola, you’re probably wondering when the Google Play edition will receive the new treat. Well, we can at least confirm that HTC plans to start seeding the update to its One M8 GPe and maybe even the pure Android M7 smartphone from early next week.

In response to a query requesting a timeline for Lollipop on the GPe phones on Twitter, HTC’s Mo Versi disclosed that the company’s target is early next week. What he didn’t mention is which smartphone, the One M8 or M7, would be getting the update. But it’s safe to say that both devices should get the latest OS around the same time.

Android 5.0 Lollipop

This also suggests that other Google Play edition phones and tablet are also near to being updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Nexus 7 and 5 have already been bumped to the new release and now, even the Nexus 4 is getting the firmware upgrade. And once the GPe lineup is done, Google will only have the Android One program left to update.

And where HTC’s flagships with the Sense UI are concerned, the company has confirmed that they will be releasing the update in under 90 days once the code gets released. Well, that has already happened and users can expect to get Lollipop by the end of the year or in January.
