On December 11, HP together with Cingular Wireless launched the very first notebook PC with built-in global mobile broadband capabilities in the United States. This notebook, the HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC has been integrated with Cingular Wireless UMTS/HSDPA-based technology, and this enables business professionals to connect to corporate networks, email and the Internet from just about anywhere at broadband speeds, without being tied to a wireless hotspot.
The HP Compact nc6400 Notebook PC is the first notebook with a tri-band UMTS modem that supports data rates of up to 3.6 megabits per second in the United States and in many other countries worldwide. Users can enjoy the benefits of mobile broadband in the United States and abroad using the Cingular Wireless BroadbandConnect or even with high-speed EDGE services. When using the HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC abroad, it must be used in countries which have UMTS or GPRS/EDGE networks.
The HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC incorporates Wireless LAN and Bluetooth wireless technology, and it is these features that complement the notebook’s convenient mobile broadband technology.
The HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC has a thin and light body, with a 14.1-inch diagonal widescreen display. The optional HP Privacy Filter helps to ensure that the screen is visible only to the user.
Other features of the HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC include the powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processors, and the ability to support 3D graphics. This helps to deliver the optimal balance of connectivity as well as performance.
The HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC is compatible wit Microsoft Windows Vista. Besides, this notebook also features HP Professional Innovations, a suite of hardware features and software solutions, which include technologies like integrated biometrics and digital accelerometers, that have been designed to enhance security, help ensure reliability and improve usability.
Lastly, the HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC is integrated with UMTA/HSDPA-based technology and this is the result of HP’s alliance with Cingular Wireless.
“The global capability that the Cingular and HP alliance provides to customers presents a considerable advantage to those who need access to important information, whether they are on the other side of town, across the country or halfway around the world,” said Laura Johnson, senior director, enterprise solutions, Cingular Wireless. “The nc6400 Notebook PC with integrated HSDPA-based technology is the latest, powerful example of how the collaborative efforts of our two companies have resulted in the introduction of a world-class product that will keep customers better connected, more productive and increasingly competitive in the marketplace.”
A monthly unlimited Cingular BroadbandConnect service costs $59.99. Cingular’s global plan of 100 megabytes for $139 a month covers data usage in more than 24 countries worldwide. The HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC with integrated Cingular Wireless BroadbandConnect is expected to be available in late December at a starting price of $1599.
