HMD Global has announced a big event taking place in Dubai on December 5. The occasion is coming right after rumors of the Nokia 9 coming out this year popped up, so people are naturally expecting the highly anticipated flagship device to make its debut.

Spurring this speculation along is a teaser photo shared by HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas with the tagline #ExpectMore. It features 3 phones engulfed in shadows with only their edges visible. One enterprising Twitter user named Mr. Incognito cranked up the brightness of the image to reveal more details.

3 Nokia Phones Incoming

It looks like the smartphones on the left and center have notches. The one on the right doesn’t have a cutout and features an orange streak running along the sides. There are a couple of notched Nokia handsets on the docket. The most probable one is the Nokia 8.1 which was launched back in October as the Nokia X7.

Word on the street is that the Nokia 8.1 is coming to India on November 28. HMD Global could still follow this timeline and launch the device on December 5 in Dubai as well. As for the second notched device, GSMArena suggests it could be the Nokia 2.1 Plus.

Finally, the notch-free phone may very well be the Nokia 9. As we mentioned above, tipsters have indicated that the smartphone will be out before the end of the year. HMD Global usually reserves its high-end phones for big events like the MWC, but it may have changed its mind this year.

One important factor which might be behind this decision is the processor at the heart of the Nokia 9. The phone reportedly runs on a Snapdragon 845 SoC. That’s fine for 2018, but it’ll seem outdated in 2019. Plus, there’s only so much patience fans will have for a truly unique flagship device from the house of Nokia.
