The need for a data storage solution that takes up solid-state memory to bank persistent data seems to be going through the roof with every blink. After showcasing its enterprise and consumer SSDs at Computex 2010, OCZ has now rolled out the Vertex 2 Pro and Vertex 2 EX Solid State Drive Series, high-performance 2.5-inch storage solutions designed for enterprise applications.
The newly revealed series is built with the latest SandForce SF-1500 SSD processors and takes care of the limitations of NAND flash memory in I/O-intensive environments. Sketched out as a viable enterprise-grade, Multi-Level Cell solution, Vertex 2 Pro delivers transfer rates up to 285MB/s read, 275MB/s write, and 4KB random writes up to 50,000 Input/Output per second.
“OCZ is committed to enabling our enterprise clients with the latest solid state drive technology in a variety of interfaces,” commented Ryan Petersen, CEO of the OCZ Technology Group. “With our new Vertex 2 EX and Pro series SSDs, we are able to deliver robust solutions that address the critical requirements of enterprise applications, including enhanced endurance, write performance, and data protection, with the option of either MLC or SLC NAND. These are truly best-in-class solutions designed for the most rigorous computing environments.”
Designed as an ideal choice to execute rigorous applications and workloads, the EX storage solution takes advantage of Single-Level Cell memory, which has ten times the program/erase cycles with the same enhanced performance as the Pro edition. Apart from this, a Serial Attached SCSI version will also be made available to users utilizing the interface in their storage infrastructures.
The new series comes equipped with multiple enterprise-specific features and sports a built-in supercapacitor that acts as a temporary power backup. Users can now peacefully stockpile their important data with a sense of reliability. In addition, it renders preeminent ECC protection and distinctive technology that mimic RAID-like protection and recovery from flash block failures on a single drive.
Featuring an ability to elevate the longevity of NAND flash memory by intelligent block management and wear-leveling, the drives extend endurance and overall consistency. This particular attribute automatically stores data in an AES-128 encrypted format to prevent data extraction and maintain security of confidential information.
The new OCZ Vertex 2 Pro and Vertex 2 EX make the scene in different capacities of 50GB, 100GB and 200GB. The pricing details are yet to be revealed.
