Rugged Handheld Nautiz X1 smartphone wants to be the ‘world’s toughest’

Handheld Nautiz X1

From the maker of rugged mobile devices and computers comes the Handheld Nautiz X1 smartphone which is built to take on almost anything that Mother Nature can throw at it, or so it seems. Honoring this is a durable form factor which can hold up against humidity, vibration, drops and high temperatures owing to its MIL-STD-810G military standards.

The handset is also crafted to be water-proof, dust-proof and shock-resistant featuring an IP67 rating. Resting within its 125mm x 65mm x 15mm shell is a dual core processor with a clock speed of 1GHz, 512MB of RAM and 2GB 0f integrated storage. Users can choose between the Android 4.0 platform and the Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 OS to run the show.

“The Nautiz X1 is the toughest smartphone ever built, suitable for both field professionals and outdoor enthusiasts,” states Jerker Hellström, CEO, Handheld Group. “Having manufactured truly rugged mobile computers for many years, ruggedness is in Handheld’s DNA. This is no ordinary smartphone. With the Nautiz X1, we are providing a smartphone that delivers the reliability and sturdiness of an ultra-rugged computer.”

Situated on the front is a damage-resistant sunlight-readable 4-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen. The handset operates over GSM or CDMA networks and provides Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS for connectivity. A 5MP camera takes a spot on the rear for video recording and snapping up stills. The company is offering the device in different battery options based on user requirement.

The Handheld Nautiz X1 price starts at €699 for Europe and $899 for the US, while its release date is scheduled for January 2013. The smartphone is now available for pre-order.
