The latest addition to the Algiz lineup of rugged mobile devices is the Handheld Algiz 10X tablet that has a release date scheduled for early next year. This piece of hardware runs on the Ultimate version of the Windows 7 platform and is Windows 8-ready as well.
Jerker Hellström, CEO of Handheld, states that the tablet is ideal for field professionals who operate in harsh conditions. The company has dressed the device in a durable form factor which can not only survive drops and other physical damage, but also withstand tough weather. Owing to its IP65 rating and MIL-STD-810G military standards, the slate is dust- as well as water-proof and it can even function in high temperatures and at different altitudes.
The overall weight of the device is 1.3kg. Tucked away within its 32mm thick form factor is an Intel Atom processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, SSD storage, a microSD card slot and a host of connectivity features such as a u-blox GPS receiver with WAAS/EGNOS/MSAS capability, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n support. For visuals, the company has thrown in a 10.1-inch display that’s said to be high in visibility, even under direct sunlight. Accompanying the touchscreen are 4 programmable buttons, 4-plus-1 directional keys and a menu button.
Come January 2013, the Algiz 10X will be available for purchase. Potential buyers can pre-order the device now to reserve a unit or two.
