Hamburg Chamber of Commerce enters the Second Life Virtual world

It sure looks like the obscure theory of parallel universes is becoming a reality, as now you will be able to make some money in the virtual world of Second Life Today the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce will officially open a digital replica of its Stock Exchange in Second Life. This is the first chamber of Commerce in the world to have taken this step closer to the virtual world.

In Second Life, an avatar- if you are a ‘newbie’ then this word means a virtual figure- invites visitors to tour the former stock exchange. He also informs visitors of business opportunities in the new online environment.

The Hamburg Chamber of Commerce is able to meet the growing needs of its member companies for information about the prospects and risks of an involvement in Second Life, says Chief Executive Officer Prof. Hans-Jorg Schmidt-Trenz.

The initiators the Hamburg “Building within a Building” are four volunteer business people from the media industry, who are also active in the Chamber of Commerce. For this project, they have established a joint venture as METABOYS and even have a motto, “Creating Second Life”.

During the six week pilot phase, tours for business people will be offered on March 23 from 16:00 to 17:00, and starting from April, every Thursday from 18:00 to 19:00. Here information about the Chamber of Commerce and Second Life will also be provided.

“After this we will decide whether or not this distribution and communication platform is suited for other services as well,” said the Chamber’s Chief Executive Officer. He happens to see a lot of tourist potential in the design and marketing of the region “Hamburg Islands” in Second Life, which is likely to be managed by the METABOYS. “Whoever thinks that our virtual city looks great might also like to know what Hamburg actually looks like,” he concluded.

Business people who are already registered in Second Life, and who also have an avatar are now able to register for tours.
