Google’s pulled the original Pixel pair from its online store, less than 2 years after the duo hit the scene in October 2016. The move is a bit sudden considering the fact that the phones aren’t even that old.
The decision was first reported by Android Police. The first-gen Pixel and Pixel XL’s landing page URL now redirects to the Google Store’s phone category which only lists the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, along with a few accessories. The company later told The Verge that the older handsets were no longer available to buy directly from the company.
Third-party sellers like Best Buy and Amazon in the US are still vending the Pixel and Pixel 2. So are Amazon India and Flipkart in India. Most retailers will be offering the smartphones at a discount, making the twins appealing to anyone who doesn’t mind owning one of Google’s 2016 flagships.
