Apart from the Pixel 5, Google has also rolled out the Pixel 4a 5G variant today. The smartphone is priced at $499, though Verizon is flogging its exclusive white colored version of the device for $599. The latter is for those who want in on the carrier’s limited coverage, ultra wideband 5G network.
Since Verizon deploys 5G using the mmWave band unlike T-Mobile or AT&T, this customized Google Pixel 4A 5G UW at $100 extra is more of a necessity than a choice. That’s the only difference in terms of specs. The Pixel 4a with 5G has a 6.2-inch 1080 x 2340p 60Hz display protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
The phone has an octa-core Snapdragon 765G processor, 6GB RAM and 128GB in-built memory. It’s a wee bit heavier than the Pixel 5 at 168g and does not boast of IP68 dust- and water-resistance. Google says its 3885mAh battery offers up to 48 hours of life in Extreme Battery Saver mode which disables 5G connectivity.
For photography, you get a 12.2MP dual-pixel rear camera paired with a 16MP ultrawide angle lens instead of a telephoto one. The former delivers optical and electronic image stabilization along with a 77° field of view. The latter features a 107° field of view. The camera on the hole-punch display in the front is an 8MP lens.

If you’re wondering how the Pixel 4a 5G compares to the Pixel 5, both offer 5G connectivity and integrate the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip. They have the same 8MP selfie cam and 12.2MP + 16MP rear camera configuration. The Pixel 5 is $200 costlier at $699. It has a 6-inch 432ppi OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz and Gorilla Glass 6.
The Pixel 4a 5G sports a 60Hz, 6.2-inch, 413ppi OLED screen with Gorilla Glass 3. It has 6GB RAM instead of the flagship’s 8GB of RAM. Both offer 128GB onboard memory. The cheaper of the two is supported by a 3885mAh battery and a 3.5mm earphone jack, while the other water-resistant device embeds a 4080mAh power house and no headphone jack.

Verizon will start accepting pre-orders for its exclusive $599 Pixel 4A UW on October 29, with shipping set for November 19. The $499 regular Google Pixel 4a 5G variant will be out in Japan come October 15. The US and other countries should get it starting November 19.
The phone will be out in the color black initially, with the white variant set to be launched on some unspecified date in the future for non-Verizon customers.
