The Pixel 3 XL has gotten leaked yet again, this time in public. An eagle-eyed MobileSyrup reader spotted the handset being used in a streetcar in Toronto, Canada.
The phone matches up to live images we’ve seen of the Pixel 3 XL so far. The most prominent giveaway is the notch and chin with speaker. Both are pretty big, perhaps even alerting the leaker to the possibility that this is the Pixel 3 XL. The individual handling the device is seen using WhatsApp, giving us a good look at what the smartphone will behave like.

Another dead giveaway is the Android 9 Pie software on the device. The new gesture navigation button is present at the bottom, as is the notch-accommodating design. Only the Essential Phone and Pixels have received the OS officially, though it’s possible that the software seen above is a beta build.
9to5Google points out that the time is on the left of the notch along with the battery icon, something which hasn’t been seen before. There’s a chance this is because of the app or it’s a customization which Google is reserving for its new Pixel series.

The alleged Pixel 3 XL is in a case, so the sides aren’t seen clearly. Perhaps this is a first-party case which will launch with the handset. As for why the phone is even appearing in public, it’s possible some Google employee is testing the smartphone out in the wild.
The same thing happened to the original Pixel, so there is some precedent for this. Rumors so far have indicated that the device is going to have a 6.7-inch QHD+ screen, a 3430mAh battery, 4GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 845 processor. The design is expected to be mostly the same, with a few tweaks here and there.
Google will probably announce the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL at an event on October 4. We’ll keep an eye out for more leaks till then.
