Google Meet Now Allows Admins To Provide Custom Background Pics

google meet Google has made a flurry of announcements lately including generative AI in a host of Workspace products and tools for developers wishing to build applications using its large language models.

So you’ll be excused if you missed the news about some small introductions to its video-communication service, Google Meet.

According to the announcement, Workspace admins can now provide custom background images for Google Meet users. This feature is intended to let companies decide what sort of backgrounds fit the professional image that they want their employees to portray.

“We’ve heard from our users that having backgrounds that match your brand guidelines are important for visual polish during critical meetings,” the tech giant said in a Workspace Updates blog post.

Once Workspace administrators have chosen a set of backgrounds deemed appropriate, users can select an image from this collection.

Google is also rolling out “External” labels for participants in a Meet. It will appear in the top-left corner of screen, so that participants can tell if anyone external to the meeting host’s domain has joined the meeting.

All Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers will start seeing these features over the next few days.

Back in February, the tech giant launched a bunch of new 360-degree video backgrounds for Meet users on both iOS and Android. They use  your device’s gyroscope to make a virtual background move with you instead of remaining as static images.

Additionally, the company also started rolling out the option to send emoji reactions during a video conference.

Earlier this month, the background noise removal feature in Google Meet was extended to mobile phones too.
