Google Media Server Launches

Google Desktop Logo Google has announced to release Google Media Server that will help users to connect their TV to the computer. The new Google Media Server is an application for Windows, which is based on Google Desktop technology such as Desktop gadgets for the administration tool and Google Desktop Search to locate media files.

All users need is a PC running Google Desktop and an UPnP-enabled device (e.g. a PlayStation 3). With touch of a single button, users can then stream videos, audios or even photos stored in the PC. That’s not it, they can even view Picasa web albums and play videos from YouTube.

While announcing the Google Media Server, avid Garcia, Software Engineer wrote on Google Desktop blog that, “In the old days, we used to watch a simple device called a television. Nowadays, all the stuff worth watching and listening to tends to be stored on or accessed through a computer. To help remedy this, we are pleased to release the Google Media Server.”
