For Rs 18999, you could be the owner of one of the slimmest smartphones in the world as the Gionee Elife S5.1 has been officially launched. The phone is the successor to the Elife S5.5 which previous held the title of the world’s thinnest in the handset market.
Well, so did the Gionee Elife S5.1, but that was short-lived with Oppo’s R5 4.85mm handset snatching the crown. And Vivo has revealed that it’s working on a smartphone even slimmer than the latter device. Gionee has been teasing the handset’s launch from months now and it isn’t surprising that the company has brought it so quickly over to India.
Apart from the extra slimness, the handset basically looks quite similar to its predecessor. Additionally, it’s a bit smaller and has toned down hardware owing to the super slim design. The display here remains to be a Super AMOLED panel, but the resolution is down to 720p and the screen size has also dropped to 4.8 inches.
If that’s not enough, you get just 16GB of internal storage, 1GB RAM and a 2100mAh battery. Even the cameras haven’t been spared from a downgrade as the rear snapper is now rated at 8MP. This version comes with a 1.7GHz octa core processor, while the LTE model has a 1.2GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 chip.
Gionee Elife S5.1 specs at a glance:
– Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (upgradable to KitKat)
– 1.7GHz octa core MediaTek processor
– 1GB RAM, 16GB storage (non-expandable)
– 4.8-inch 720p HD Super AMOLED touchscreen
– 5MP front camera, 8MP rear snapper
– 2100mAh battery
The Gionee Elife S5.1 is expected to go on sale in India from next week and it should be available in multiple colors.
