The CES 2012 will apparently witness a new generation of damage-resistant technology with the launch of the Corning Gorilla Glass 2. At present, its previous range of display protectors have reportedly achieved a sales mark of more than 500 million worldwide through brands such as Acer, HTC, Dell, Lenovo, LG, Nokia and Samsung.

Compared to its predecessor, the upcoming damage-resistant display technology is said to have a much smaller form factor and a highly durable design. Besides these, it is also likely to possess better capabilities for providing improvements in functionality, enhancements in the overall touch experience and various related attributes.

James R. Steiner, senior vice president and general manager, Corning Specialty Materials, commented, “Corning Gorilla Glass has been a tremendous success for Corning, enjoying excellent market acceptance across mobile device industries. Handset and tablet device manufacturers are clearly driving toward higher functionality from thinner designs. Corning’s latest innovation in Gorilla Glass technology is very well positioned to meet these challenges and enable broader touch technology penetration,”

The Corning Gorilla Glass technology, which debuted back at CES 2011, is currently employed on smartphones and various other gadgets from more than 30 brands and around 575 devices. This year, the company plans on unveiling an 82-inch multi-touch LCD prototype with its next generation of damage-resistant display technology. In addition to this, Corning is also set to expand its offerings towards developing larger touch displays for educational purposes, entertainment and various other applications.

The next generation Corning Gorilla Glass 2 technology is scheduled to make its debut at the CES 2012. Additional details are expected to surface in an announcement that’s likely to roll out today.
