Wal-Mart has teamed up with Toshiba to develop and sell the first Restriction on Hazardous Substance (RoHS) laptop. RoHS is a directive that prevents the use of a variety of hazardous substances in electronic equipment, including laptops.
This environmental-friendly laptop is the 15-inch Toshiba Satellite A55-S1064. It will be featuring a 1.6GHz Celeron-M, 512MB memory, 40GB hard drive and Wi-Fi.
Priced at less than $700 in most markets, Wal-Mart’s says that all computers sold at their stores will meet RoHS standards by July.
According to Green Star, a non-profit organisation, consumer electronics make up 40 percent of the lead found in landfills.
