What Can We Expect From World of Warcraft in 2021?

Feb 3, 2021

World of Warcraft: Battle for AzerothCongratulations, you survived 2020 and Battle For Azeroth, and you’ve made it to 2021. The latest World of Warcraft Expansion, Shadowlands, is now live and is proving to be a massive hit with players and critics alike. So, what can we expect from World of Warcraft in 2021?

New Mounts

Another quite lets World of Warcraft players hyped like a new mount. Mount collecting has become an entire mini-game within the game for many players. Some players spend countless hours grinding old content or farming vast amounts of gold to buy Bind of Equip mounts from the Auction House. If you’re currently short on gold for your next mount, you can buy WoW gold online.

Over the last few years, Blizzard has been releasing yearly mounts on the Store that align with the Chinese Zodiac. Since 2020 was the Year of the Rat, Blizzard released Squeakers, the Trickster mount. We’re now in 2021, which is the Year of the Ox. We can expect Blizzard to release an Ox-themed amount for sale in either January or February.

If you don’t like to buy your mounts from the Store, then don’t worry; you’ll still be getting a new mount soon. The Wandering Ancient mount will be the next free Shadowlands mount, as voted on by players last year. We’re not sure when Blizzard will release this mount, but it’s likely to be in the first quarter of 2021.

BlizzConline

BlizzCon is Blizzard’s annual gaming convention where they release details and teasers for upcoming content across their different games. Due to the coronavirus, BlizzCon 2020, which was set to take place in November, was canceled. Determined not to leave fans with nothing, Blizzard has repackaged this event into BlizzConline – a totally online event free to everyone, which will take place in February 2021.

It’s expected gamers will get more details about Overwatch 2 at this event, but what can we expect from World of Warcraft?

We predict an announcement for the next Classic installment – World of Warcraft The Burning Crusade (TBC). World of Warcraft Classic is now in its final content phase, and Blizzard has been conducting surveys, asking players for their opinion on a TBC expansion. It’s fair to say that at this point, a TBC expansion is all but official – It’s happening; we’re just waiting for Blizzard to say when. This news, and other Classic news, like whether fresh Classic (Vanilla) servers will be rolled out, will likely dominate the WoW portion of BlizzConline. But Blizzard might also tease some details about the Shadowlands 9.1 upcoming content release.

The Burning Crusade

There have been a few leaks regarding the release of The Burning Crusade Classic servers. According to the source, we can expect a TBC Beta in mid-February, a Prepatch in April, and for the game to go live in May. We’ll likely find out how accurate this timeline is at BlizzConline.

Shadowlands 9.1

Looking at the Shadowlands Arena World Championship schedule, which will take place in 9.0, we can make some predictions about when 9.1 will launch. Season One of the AWC is starting in January 2021 and running into May. And Season Two is starting in July. Therefore, it would make sense for Blizzard to launch 9.1 sometime between May and July 2021, but whether it will be closer to May or July, we can’t say.

What can we expect from 9.1? At this point, it’s just speculation, but many fans predict we’ll see the return of Tier sets, we’ll get a Maldraxxus themed raid, and get new layers for Torghast.

Will We Get 9.2 in 2021?

Yes, most likely. If 9.1 launches in late spring or early summer, we can expect that 9.2 will release some time after August, most likely in September or October. Either way, we’ll probably be finishing 2021 in patch 9.2

Will BlizzCon 2021 Happen?

Since BlizzCon usually happens in November, there’s still plenty of time for Blizzard to figure out whether the event will be viable this year. With vaccines being rolled out across the world, there’s a good chance that BlizzCon might happen this year. However, it will, of course, depend on case numbers and whether Blizzard deems it safe. If BlizzConline is a success, they may decide to play it safe and host another online event in 2021. If they go for this option, it will be interesting to see whether they keep the November schedule or switch to a yearly February schedule for the online event.
