Those in the UK shouldn’t be disheartened about the supposed shortage of the Google Nexus 7 as the tablet has entered the country through Carphone Warehouse. The Jelly Bean-based slate is already up for sale through this retailer and users have an option to grab it for free if they agree to sign on the dotted line for a contract.

The device dons a 7-inch HD multi-touch display of 1280 x 800p resolution on its front panel, complete with a gyroscope and an accelerometer. It acquires multitasking capabilities from the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor and thus seems apt for gaming on the move.

“It’s interesting to see that despite larger 10 inch tablets dominating the market, Google is forging ahead with its own 7 inch model. A smaller tablet has yet to prove itself in a category dominated by bigger screens, but if anyone can make it happen, Google can. I’m sure the other leading tablet manufacturers will be watching closely and be ready to follow suit in the coming months,” commented Graham Stapleton, Chief Commercial Officer at Carphone Warehouse.

The Wi-Fi-enabled tablet is powered by the Android 4.1 OS. It can be used for the purpose of watching movies, reading books, surfing the internet or even social networking. Needless to say, it allows access to applications in the Google Play store. The cost-effective slate has been fitted with a front-mounted 1.2MP camera and ships without a rear-facing snapper.

The standalone 16GB Google Nexus 7 price tag reads £199.99, while it is available for free along with a contract and a monthly data plan of £20.50. It can be picked up from the official Carphone Warehouse website, company-owned retail stores or through telesales.
